Dog-friendly beaches in Penticton

Humans love going to the beach and of course so do our dogs! With lots of beaches in Penticton to choose from it is important to understand which ones are also for our four-legged friends. Luckily there are a few dedicated dog friendly beaches in Penticton for spaces where you can take your dog to have a good run around as well as a splash in the lake.

Okanagan Lake Park Beach

Okanagan Lake Park dog beach

Okanagan Lake Park Beach has a space on the waterfront dedicated to our doggy friends. It is fenced off up to the waterfront so as long as your dog doesn’t take off too far for a swim they will stay relatively contained to the dog park. The space itself is small but the water stays shallow for quite awhile so even if your dog isn’t the best swimmer they can still enjoy a dip in the lake. The walk around the actual dog park is also enjoyable as it is located in Okanagan Lake Park. There are lovely paths connecting to other beach areas and parks.

One thing to be mindful of is there have been numerous reports of broken glass in the area.

Three Mile Beach (South bay)

Dog friendly beach in penticton

Location: Three Mile Rd, about 10 minutes outside of Penticton

Three Mile Beach is for the dogs and for the nudists! Head to the North side of the beach for sunbathing in the nude and head to the South side of the beach for swimming doggies. The South beach is also for boats so be mindful of this when releasing your dog to play. This one is a great dog friendly beach in Penticton if you want something a little less crowded as it is a much larger space. Being just outside of town also cuts down on the number of people visiting the area with their dogs. The same can’t be said about the nudists however so for that reason I recommend avoiding it during human beach high time as parking is limited.

Skaha Lake on Lakeside Road

Location: 4851 Lakeside Road

If you head out of town along the East end of town you will find the next of the dog friendly beaches in Penticton. The space has limited parking and is right off a fairly busy road but it is tucked away down the side of the lake. It isn’t necessarily a sandy beach like some of the other dog beaches but it is a stretch of land with water access for pups to run around and play. There is a bit of a gap in fencing on the North side so if your dog likes to explore keep an eye out for runaways.

OK Falls dog beach

Okanagan Falls Dog Park (15 minute drive from Penticton)

Location: Located on 7th Avenue in Okanagan Falls, on the south shore of Skaha Lake

This dog friendly beach is a bit of a drive from Penticton at the Okanagan Falls beach but it is definitely worth it. It is located in Christie Memorial Park, which is a large open space with plenty of grassy and sandy areas to enjoy. There is a playground, splash pad and access to the KVR trail over the trestle bridge. The dog park itself is enclosed with decent sized access to the beach.

Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park (10 minute drive from Penticton in Summerland)

Location: About 8km North of Penticton off Highway 97 (about 3km south of Summerland)

Sun Oka Beach Park is a stunning park all around. For humans, for kids and of course for dogs. There’s a playground, picnic areas, a concession stand and a beautiful swimming beach for humans. The bonus of it all is that there’s also a lovely off-leash area for dogs. The dog-friendly beach is east of the main beach, which is accessible by a 200m trail through some beautiful cottonwood trees. The beach extends to where Trout Creek enters the lakes and dogs are not permitted beyond this area. This is a well-loved dog-friendly beach in Penticton even though it is juut a bit outside of town.
